f. Functions and Tasks:
The Centre has the functions of carrying out assignments, collecting, adding, processing and providing materials, information about fundamental sciences, educational sciences. All these responsibilities help to meet the demands of studying, teaching and doing research of the teaching staff and students who are both at HUE and at other universities. The Centre over the past 50 years has performed well the following fundamental tasks:
- Working as consultants in making long-term and short-term plans for HUE in terms of management of information materials subsidizing training, researching and studying in each period.
- Collecting, enriching, changing and processing materials with a view to providing necessary information to these who are searching for such information.
- Arranging, storing and preserving HUE material resources including all kinds of print and other informative material.
- Setting up modern and traditional information searching system with a view to popularizing information
- Collecting and keeping publications by HUE Publishing House, Master and PhD Thesises presented at HUE or by HUE and other universities.
- Researching library information science and applying new technological achievements to improve the processing and the serving of information to students and the teaching staff.
- Training to improve both the knowledge and the abilities of librarians in and out HUE
- Maintaining and developing relationships with a view to exchanging and sharing information with other library information centers directed by universities, scientific organization inside and outside Vietnam such as Vietnamese library coalition, foreign library coalitions, etc.
g. Managing Library Card:
At present, the Centre is managing a considerable number of readers including pupils, students, staff and researchers of nearly

h. Managing Library Card:
At present, the Centre is managing a considerable number of readers including pupils, students, staff and researchers of nearly 10,000 cards (300 cards for pupils, 7,000 cards for students, 1,000 cards for staffs and 1,000 cards for postgraduates and researchers). The number of readers is about 30, 000 a month.
