Based on the circular 276/ND issued by the Ministry of Education, Hanoi National University of Education (HNUE) was founded on 11th , October 1951. HNUE (formerly Hanoi National Pedagogic University) is the oldest tertiary institution in providing undergraduate and postgraduate teacher education in Vietnam.
Since its establishment over 50 years ago, the Hanoi National University of Education has experienced four important periods of development bearing with different names:
From 1951-1966: Hanoi University of Education.
From 1966-1993: Hanoi First University of Education (HNUE I).
From 1993-1999: Hanoi Pedagogic University under Hanoi National University.
From October 1999 to now: Hanoi National University of Education.
With a total student population of approximately 45,000, including students of formal and informal training programs, and international students, HNUE is consistently ranked as one of the most favored options in Vietnam's higher education system, both in terms of the courses offered and the quality of graduates produced.
Through more 50 years of development, HNUE is now a multi-disciplinary university covering 22 different fields of study including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Agro-Biology, Technology Education, Information Technology, Philology, History, Geography, Political Education, Psychology and Education, Early-childhood Education, Primary Education, Special Education, Physical Education, National Defense Education, Music and Fine Art Education, English Language, French Language, Russian Language, Educational Management and Vietnamese Studies.
HNUE has in total 36 centers including those for pure sciences, applied sciences, and educational sciences, the Institute of Educational Studies, technology teaching labs, equipped studios, educational science magazine, education press as well as teaching aids units.
Over the last 10 years, HNUE has implemented various researches, which support scientific development and human recourses training. HNUE has opened two more natural science and social science centers and built more labs to support natural science research.
HNUE has published more than 200 books on education and distributed them to all Universities of Education throughout Vietnam. HNUE also supplies books for secondary schools.
HNUE also develops the curriculum for other Universities of Education in Vietnam, and it can be said that HNUE plays an important role in the overall improvement of learning and teaching methodologies.
HNUE has achieved 50 projects on natural sciences and social sciences.
HNUE has 40 specialties offering Master degrees and 39 programs awarding Doctorates in many fields. HNUE also has high quality training sections for outstanding students in its honored programs.
HNUE has 40 years of co-operation with many European and Asian countries in research and training.
Over 100 delegations and groups of scholars from different countries each year visit HNUE.
In the past ten years, HNUE has trained 600 doctors of philosophy and doctors of science, 4,000 masters and a great amount of bachelors (including 12,100 bachelors in regular training, 1,500 bachelors in in-service training, 4,813 bachelors in distance training and 1,000 bachelors in crash course training). At present, HNUE has 4,950 students in regular training, 2,000 students in crash course training, 6,000 students in in-service training, 2,500 students in distance, about 1,000 master students and hundreds of doctoral students.
