Located in the heart of the nation’s capital, over its 50 years of existence, the University has built a strong reputation as one of Vietnam's leading universities. We have achieved this by providing a unique learning environment based on our deep commitment to meeting the changing needs of society and our growing student population.

Our student body is the best qualified and most diverse in our history. More than 45,000 students are annually seeking degrees from HNUE, and more than 10,000 of them are on campus in their regular programs. Students come to our campus from every province in the nation, and from other countries. The University is an academic community of almost 1,300 researchers, teachers and staff members. It has been built with strong values rooted in a culture that reflects the new future of Vietnam, its diversity and a commitment to excellence, social justice, and public accountability.

In 2007, we updated our university strategic plan to guide our growth for the next decade. According to this plan HNUE commits itself to excellence in research and teaching, to a high-quality student experience and to a spirit of real service to the community. We will build on our strengths and diversify our programs.  We will create a university community that helps students to look at the world in new and important ways, that enables academics to continue their inspiring teaching and breakthrough research, that advances rich international academic collaboration, and that fosters a learning environment that will help to grow its influence and to build on its current position as leader in interdisciplinary research and teaching.
